DOZENS OF people gathered atop Dundee Law on Saturday morning to witness a re-enactment of the raising of the standard that initiated the Jacobite Rebellion.
Organised by the Crann Tara group, the event was held in the memory of John Grahame of Claverhouse, immortalised as Bonnie Dundee, who unfurled the standard of King James II of England and VII of Scotland on April 13, 1689.
There was a procession from Grahame’s old home at Dudhope Castle to the summit for the ceremony, which was being held for the fourth time.
Organiser Kenny Borthwick said, “Some people turn up to watch every year and dress up. Others had read about it in the paper and came for the first time.
“Everyone was very interested in the story of John Grahame and asked lots of questions about him and the flags we had here.”
Mr Borthwick was stirred into recreating the act because of what he feels has been an injustice in the historical coverage of Grahame, who died leading the Jacobites to victory at the Battle of Killiecrankie.
