PERTH AND North Perthshire MP Pete Wishart yesterday welcomed the news that the post office in Pitlochry is being reopened with a new sub-postmaster.
The future of the facility had been uncertain for the past year following difficulties with the Atholl Street site and the collapse of a takeover deal by SPAR owner C. J. Lang.
“I am glad and extremely relieved that we have a resolution to the situation at Pitlochry and that the post office can now look forward to a secure future,” said Mr Wishart.
“This has been an uncertain time for everyone involved, and at times it seemed that the Atholl Street site may be lost.
“The withdrawal of the SPAR deal was particularly unhelpful, but we have been fortunate that a new sub-postmaster has been found in local man Chris Dawson and I am certain that Chris will make a great success of the venture.
“I would further like to congratulate everybody involved for thrashing out a satisfactory arrangement, particularly Post Office counters and landlord C. J. D. Galbraith.”
New Sub-postmaster Chris Dawson added, “I am delighted and relieved that this is finally resolved and am now looking forward to developing the business in Pitlochry.
“Pitlochry deserves a full Post Office service and I would like to thank everyone who has helped in getting this thrashed out, particularly Pete Wishart for taking this up and helping to broker the deal that keeps the post office in Atholl Street.”
