A CONSIDERABLE number of music fans in Dundee could lose out on a chance to see indie band the Arctic Monkeys at the Caird Hall on Tuesday unless a mail delivery service reverses its “sheer incompetence” and turns up with their tickets.
Michael Binnie (24), who works with BT phonebook in the city centre, applied on the group’s website nearly three weeks ago for tickets to the Dundee gig.
“I was in a ballot for the tickets and was successful, and was told on the official website that the tickets would be sent via Secure Mail Services (SMS), based in Derby,” he said.
Since then despite a number of telephone calls to SMS and promises by the company that they had called at his home with tickets, no sign of the precious briefs has been forthcoming.
“I paid £25 each for the tickets, plus the exorbitant postage of £5 for each ticket. I waited and waited and then last week got an Email from SMS saying they had tried to visit my home with the tickets on numerous occasions but there was no one there.
“Clearly that is not the case, since my girlfriend and I work different shifts and there is someone there most of the time.
“No card was left by the company and they made no effort to contact me.”
Anxious to secure his tickets as time was running out, Michael called again and was told to leave his driving licence at the BT front door on Wednesday.
He did, but there was still no sign of the tickets.
“I called again and they said they would deliver on Friday but I have no confidence in them.
“As they told me they did not deliver on the day of the concert, this leaves only a couple of days.
“This is down to the sheer incompetence of this company.”
Michael said he knew of perhaps a dozen other people in his building who were still waiting for tickets, and there were others in a nearby commercial company in the same situation.
“When I complained about the service and asked what would happen if the tickets didn’t arrive, I was told it would not be their fault.”
Laura Quinn, from Carnoustie, is also waiting for tickets.
Her mother Tanya yesterday said there had been phone calls and Emails, none of which matched up.
“We were told they had made numerous efforts to deliver them, then suggested Laura pick the tickets up at the venue.
“But we then found out that can’t be done.
“SMS then claimed that we already had the tickets and when we said they had not arrived, suggested we go to the Post Office.
“They weren’t there either.”
The delivery company said last night they could not give out any information except to their customers.
