YOUNGSTERS FROM Auchtergaven Primary School in Bankfoot helped make sure their area looked pristine yesterday by carrying out a litter-pick.
More than 100 pupils were out in the school grounds and in the village.
It was the first in a series of spring clean campaign litter-picks involving schools to take place over the next couple of weeks.
“We really wanted to do something to help the local environment and the community in Bankfoot,” said head teacher Frances Dean.
“This activity also allows the children to learn about litter issues and the effect on the environment.”
Council litter enforcement officer Neil Patterson welcomed the involvement of local children.
He said the litter picks are an excellent way to help to raise awareness of the issue.
“It is also a very constructive way of instilling in our young people notions of citizenship and the idea that they can help to care for their environment in very simple ways, such as using litter bins,” he added.
