DUNDEE UNITED remain on course to play Spanish superstars Barcelona in a glamour friendly this summer.
News that Hibs, who were supposed to be the other Scots side to be facing Barca, have left them off the list of pre-season opponents raised concerns that the trip had fallen through.
The Catalan giants initially pencilled in fixtures against United on July 26 and the Hibees two days later, possibly at Murrayfield, but the Easter Road side since have pulled out because of the cost.
However, Hearts are poised to step in and take over from their Edinburgh rivals.
It is understood United have agreed their match in principle for the 26th but are waiting for official confirmation from the Tynecastle club before Barcelona’s proposal can be formally accepted.
DUNDEE boss Alex Rae will run the rule over a host of wannabe signings today.
Players from across the United Kingdom and beyond will converge on Dens Park for a bounce game, looking to land a deal with the Dark Blues.
“This should give me an early chance to look at some of the talent that is available this summer,” said Rae.
