POLICE in Fife have appealed for witnesses to a serious assault in Kirkcaldy which left a 43-year-old man with severe head injuries.
The incident happened in Miller Street at around 3.30am on Monday morning, when two men attacked their victim in an assault that apparently came without warning.
Fife Police are particularly keen to trace a man who was in the area and spoke to the victim prior to the assault and may or may not have been involved in the incident.
Detectives want the man to come forward to assist the police with their inquiries.
Central division detective constable Gavin Dewar said, “We are following several lines of inquiry but we need information from the public to help us put the final piece of the jigsaw in place.
“This was an unprovoked attack which has resulted in a serious head injury which might have caused the victim’s death.”
The first male attacker is described as being around 26-years-old with blonde hair, about six feet tall and wearing a white vest top and red trousers.
The second man is aged around 25, of stocky build with dark hair and wearing a blue top similar to a Scotland football strip.
Police confirmed the victim had been taken to Queen Margaret Hospital, Dunfermline, where he was said to be in a “stable” condition last night.
Anyone with information on the assault can call police on 01592 251111.
