A DRUNKEN Rangers fan who tried to sneak into the home end at East End Park to watch them play Dunfermline was spotted after shaking hands with a friend when his team scored.
Dunfermline Sheriff Court heard yesterday that Iain Wilson, from Crosshill in Fife, was so drunk when police spoke to him he could barely stand up straight.
His actions cost him a £200 fine and a ban from attending Rangers games in future.
Wilson (47), of Inchgall Avenue, admitted being drunk inside a sports stadium on January 21.
Depute fiscal Joanna Nicholson told Sheriff Ian Dunbar some of the home supporters told security staff they believed there was a Rangers fan in their section of the crowd.
Wilson was spoken to, but allowed to stay.
However their attention was drawn to him again and police were called over.
As they spoke to him it was clear he was extremely drunk and having trouble standing.
Wilson, a registered alcoholic, was turfed out of the stadium and ended up spending several hours in custody.
Solicitor Russell McPhate said his client was a Rangers fan.
He had gone to the game with a friend and, as they couldn’t get into the Rangers end, decided to sit amongst the Pars supporters.
When Rangers scored the pair tried to be discreet by simply shaking hands to celebrate the goal, but they were spotted.
Mr McPhate added that Wilson saw just 18 minutes of the game before he was ejected from the stadium.
As a result of his actions Rangers Football Club wrote to him to say he was no longer welcome at any of their matches.
“He bitterly regrets attending a football match in that state,” Mr McPhate added.
