A TEENAGE GIRL was inches away from death last night after an out-of-control car tore through two fences before crashing into the front of her house in Dundee.
Sixteen-year-old Louise Miller was using the computer in her front room when the red Nissan Almera struck her house.
Her father Doug was watching TV when the incident occurred.
The driver of the car, which had three occupants, lost control of the vehicle around 10pm as he approached the Millers’ house at 117 William Fitzgerald Way.
The car struck a kerb but continued through a steel fence set up around a building site, through a wooden fence into the Millers’ garden before colliding with Mr Miller’s car, a small wall and then the front of their house.
Part of the fence remained perched on top of the car after it came to its sudden halt and debris was strewn across the lawn, while the force of the collision bent the wall of the house inward.
Mr Miller, an accounts manager with Scottish and Southern Energy, said, “I heard a crash but didn’t realise that something had hit the building.
“My daughter Louise had been on the computer so was right in the front of the house.”
Despite the extensive damage to both his house and car, Mr Miller realised the accident could have had far more serious consequences.
“If the car had hit anyone they would be dead.
“If someone had been walking their dog or kids were walking home they could have been hit.
“There really should be speed bumps on the road—it’s been an accident waiting to happen for a long time.”
Neighbours were also startled by the loud crash and rushed to see what had happened.
Next-door neighbour Martin Gray described the incident as like “something out of Dukes Of Hazzard” and backed Mr Miller’s call for speed restrictions to be introduced to the street.
“We heard a great big bang and came straight outside. We’ve been asking for speed bumps here for years—there are cars that go up and down this road at 70 miles per hour even though it’s only a 30.”
James Price from nearby Emmock Walk added, “It is an accident blackspot. About three people have been knocked down here over the past few months.”
Police last night said a man had been arrested in connection with the incident.
