Lionel’s lorryload of prizes stuns Lisa

A FIFE woman has been toasting her success this week after scooping thousands of pounds’ worth of prizes during a popular Saturday night TV show.

Lisa Brennan (21), a Fife Council employee from Glenrothes, won a truckload of sought-after items by entering a competition on the ITV programme Vernon Kay’s Gameshow Marathon at the weekend.

Lisa was surprised at her office in Flemington Road on Wednesday by TV personality Lionel Blair, who gave her the good news that she was the lucky winner of this week’s home viewer contest.

Decked out in a kilt for the occasion, the former Name That Tune host led a shell-shocked Lisa out to the car park where the Gameshow Marathon Prize Truck was waiting.

Inside was thousands of pounds worth of prizes, including a trip on the Orient Express, a bath, luggage, trouser press, lawnmower, dinner service, telephone, satellite navigation system, entertainment system, clock and designer watches—to name but a few.

“I’ve been saying to myself all week that it doesn’t happen to people like me and I still can’t believe it.”

“When I first saw the cameramen come in, I felt sick—I just remember all the commotion in the office and my jaw dropped to the ground when everyone came in.

“I’m at work as normal then Lionel Blair shows up with his camera crew!

“Then they took me down to the car park and then up to the house with all the prizes—it was unbelievable,” she said.

Programme makers contacted Lisa on Sunday to confirm she had been shortlisted but even then she didn’t think she stood a realistic chance of winning.

“They phoned me on the Sunday afternoon to say I had been short-listed and asked for two references, but then they telephoned my sister to tell her that I had won,” she said.

“I didn’t know anything— my supervisor and my manager knew, as well as my family, but I didn’t have a clue.”

Each week on the programme, host Vernon Kay takes celebrity contestants for a trip down quiz-show memory lane, with featured shows including The Price is Right, Blockbusters, Blankety Blank, The Golden Shot, Name That Tune, Mr and Mrs, Bullseye and Play Your Cards Right.

All prizes in the show are put into the prize truck to be won by a viewer who answers a simple question.

Last Saturday’s competition challenged viewers, in which show would you get a runners-up prize of a cheque book and pen? Lisa took the plunge and correctly answered Blankety Blank—a decision that put her among thousands of correct entries on the night.

An ITV spokeswoman congratulated Lisa and said footage of Lionel Blair’s surprise visit to Glenrothes is expected to be shown on Vernon Kay’s Gameshow Marathon this Saturday night on ITV1 at 6.55pm.
