Bomb-like bang as car hit house

Mr Miller shows the damage caused to his home by the crash.

A DUNDEE MAN yesterday described how “it was like a bomb going off” when a car careered through fencing before ploughing into the front of his house, causing extensive damage.

Doug Miller’s daughter Louise (16) is lucky be alive following the incident that occurred at around 10pm on Wednesday at their house in William Fitzgerald Way.

“I heard the huge bang and wondered what it was,” Mr Miller said. “It was like a bomb going off!

“I came through to the front room where Louise was sitting, looked out the window and could see a car sitting against the wall and my car had been shunted over by about six feet.

“There was a massive 20-foot pole that hit the window sill and it only just missed the window of the room where Louise was sitting.”

Louise, a Lawside Academy pupil, was sitting using a computer when the red Nissan Almera struck the house.

Her father Doug, who is an accounts manager with Scottish and Southern Energy, was sitting in another room watching the television.

It is believed that whilst the car was travelling along William Fitzgerald Way, it clipped a kerb before careering off the road into the house, which was built only around four years ago.

The car crashed through a steel fence set up around the building site beside the house, as well as through a wooden fence before coming to a halt in the Millers’ driveway.

Mr Miller added, “I’ve asked for speed ramps on this road, but nothing has ever been done.

“Some of the residents do about 50mph on this road and I’ve even seen someone do around 80mph.

Structural engineers gave the Millers the all clear to remain at the house last night following a survey of the damage. Engineers plan to carry out structural support work today and a report will be also be compiled by an insurance assessor.

A man has been charged in connection with the incident.
