Man found dead in cell named

THE SCOTTISH Prison Service last night released the identity of man found dead at Perth Prison yesterday.

Police launched an investigation after Clark James Izard (33), of Dundee, died suddenly at the jail. The grim discovery was made in a cell at the prison yesterday morning.

The Scottish Prison Service confirmed that he had died whilst in custody at Perth but a spokesperson said it was too early to discuss the cause of death.

But it is understood he did not die of natural causes, with the SPS refusing to be drawn further while inquiries continue.

Izard was sent to the prison after being remanded in custody on Tuesday.

The SPS spokesperson said police would be investigating the incident in a bid to determine the full circumstances of his death. Next of kin had also been informed.

As with all sudden deaths, a report is being sent to the local procurator fiscal.

At the end of March, Izard was jailed for three months for being in the curtilege of 9 Strathmore Street, Dundee, without lawful authority, so it might be reasonably inferred he intended to commit theft there.
