HERBIE RIDES Again in Angus—on the back of a county bus.
The marvellous motor with a mind of its own has been captured by talented young artist Dean Robertson, whose entry has been chosen by organisers of this year’s Scottish Transport Extravaganza at Glamis Castle as the winner of a poster competition to promote next month’s event.
Over the weekend of July 7/8, some of the country’s finest automotive old timers will converge on Angus, including a 1967 Beetle which was the inspiration for 14-year-old Dean’s prize-winning artwork.
The Herbie lookalike, which is just one set of wheels in the motoring collection of Forfar car enthusiasts Kathleen and Alex Smith, was part of the Glenisla Classic Car Club stand at last year’s event
Close by, Dean’s family and their 1966 Hillman Minx, from rural Ruthven, were among the Tayside Classic Car Club contingent at Glamis and the Webster’s High School teenager used the motoring movie star for his poster idea.
Lesley Munro, administrator of Extravaganza organisers the Strathmore Vintage Vehicle Club, presented Dean with his prize and a copy of the award-winning poster in Forfar yesterday as preparations for the crowd-puller moved up a gear.
