Full steam ahead for model rail festival

PERTH AND District Model Railway Club will be holding its annual celebration of model railways at the Dewar’s Centre over the weekend of June 23-24.

Now in its 15th year, it has become one of the biggest and best events of its kind in Scotland, attracting thousands of enthusiasts from all over the country.

From a humble one-day show in the Lesser City Hall with five model railways on show, the club now present 22 model displays, modelling demonstrations and a comprehensive selection of specialist trade stands.

Special guests this year include a model of Gleneagles Station that has never been exhibited before and modelled before the closure of the branch line to Crieff.

There are US, Swiss, French and German railway exhibits, the club will show for the first time its new German layout, Helmstadt, there is a huge model of a French railway viaduct and, for the older visitor, a display of old 1950s and 60s Triang Hornby model trains.

A vintage bus service will run between Mill Street, Glasgow Road (beside Dewar’s) and Oakbank. The event runs from 10am to 6pm on Saturday and from 10am to 5pm on Sunday.
