A YOUNG melanoma cancer victim’s dying wish was realised last night when a charity concert was staged in her honour to raise funds to fight the disease.
The life of Jude Malecki (29), who was brought up in Tayport, was celebrated during the Hey Jude event at Dundee Rep, organised by her actor fiance Keith Fleming.
The sell-out concert raised around £15,000 to be spent on the research of melanoma, one of the rarer types of skin cancer.
The Hazey Janes, Kit Clark and Dundee Rep women’s singing group Loadsaweeminsingin joined actors on stage.
Keith, a member of the Rep Ensemble, arranged the acoustic show, with every song relevant to Jude’s musical tastes and personality, from Les Miserables to John Lennon.
It was Jude’s wish that an event of this kind be organised to raise money for research into the type of cancer she had so that others may get a chance denied her.
“Even just hearing the songs in rehearsal was emotional,” said Keith.
“They are all songs relevant to Jude and have all been picked for a reason.
“All the performers are doing this for Jude because of the person she was and because they have an opportunity to raise money for a worthy cause.”
Keith met June seven years ago when he first joined the Rep.
Jude was on the box office and was one of the first faces he saw when he came into the building.
The pair’s lives were thrown into turmoil by the illness but they found time to get engaged and Jude also told Keith she wanted something positive to come from her experience.
