Fun day celebrated Decades of Ardler

Dundee West MSP Joe FitzPatrick with some hip volunteers.

ARDLER RESIDENTS enjoyed a trip down memory lane on Saturday as the area’s annual fun day got into full swing.

This year’s event, held at Ardler and St Fergus’ primary schools, marked the end of an era as locals began looking ahead to the forthcoming demolition of the last multi-storey housing block in the area.

Five blocks have already gone and the Barassie/Baberton/Carnoustie Court block is due to be razed soon.

A band led a procession to the schools, where some of the area’s first residents conducted an official opening. The fun day had a Decades of Ardler theme to recognise of the 40th anniversary of the multis’ construction, with photographs, cars and music from the decades, as well as a fancy dress competition with a 60s, 70s and 80s theme.

In addition to stalls and cake and candy, there was a chance for visitors to take part in the Ardler talent spot, in which each act had a three-minute opportunity to perform, showcasing talent from juggling to singing and dancing.
