Column fall investigation

INVESTIGATIONS ARE continuing into the cause of the collapse of a lighting column on the Tay Road Bridge amid high winds in January.

Gales as high as 86mph buffeted the bridge on January 9 and brought down a lighting column which struck a car, leaving its driver shaken.

Since then, bridge managers have been trying to discover if there had been any failure of the column.

The bridge’s joint board heard yesterday load testing of the other lighting columns has been conducted and they were found to be safe.

Further investigations are now being carried out and the results will be reported to a later meeting of the board.
