DUNDEE UNITED expect to have an almost clean bill of health when pre-season training gets under way a week tomorrow.
The four players—Christian Kalvenes, Greg Cameron, Morgaro Gomis and Keith Watson—who finished last term on the injured list are all expected to be available, albeit in the case of Kalvenes and Cameron, who have both undergone groin surgery, there might be limitations placed on their participation.
“Jeff Clarke our physio thinks Cameron and Kalvenes will be able to join in next weekend,’’ revealed manager Craig Levein yesterday.
“They might not be able to do everything the rest of the lads do but they should be up to some running.
“Morgaro Gomis, who had an injection for his groin complaint, rather than an op, will also be joining in as will Keith Watson.’’
Teenage full-back Watson has spent the last few weeks following an exercise programme given to him to try and avoid the need for surgery to prevent further issues with kneecap dislocation.
“If something were to happen again then Keith would get an operation but for now it’s a case of carrying on as normal with him and the surgeon is hopeful that if he works very, very hard on building up his knee muscles, given his age, he’ll be fine,’’ said Levein.
The Tangerines boss admitted his search for a striker might not be concluded before pre-season training gets under way and that he may have to bring players in on trial. But that scenario isn’t one which concerns him.
“I’ve got a list of people I’m considering but if nothing develops from that then it might be we bring in trialists,’’ he said.
“However, given I’m just about there as far as putting the squad together for next season is concerned—we’ve only the one player left to find—then I’m quite relaxed about that.’’
United will unveil defender Darren Dods at a press conference today.
