Tragic death in Spain of young father

A young Glenrothes dad has died suddenly while on holiday in Spain.

Brian Currie (37) (pictured) died in his sleep from suspected heart failure while staying at a hotel in the small village of Deya Soller, near Palma in Majorca.

He had flown there with a friend to attend another friend’s wedding.

Mr Currie who has a son, Lewis (10), was born in Glenrothes in 1969 to John and Betty.

He grew up in the Rimbleton area of the town and attended Rimbleton Primary and Glenrothes High School.

Upon leaving school, he trained as a quantity surveyor and worked at Fife Council for 20 years as a surveyor and later as a project manager.

He left the local authority in May to take up a post in Edinburgh as an associate director with construction and management company, Turner and Townsend.

Mr Currie exercised regularly and had no known health problems.

His brother, Leonard (42) said the family were in a state of shock over Brian’s sudden death.

“It’s hard to believe he has really gone. The last time I saw him we were discussing what we should do to celebrate our father turning 70 but sadly Brian didn’t live to see that day.

“He will be remembered by so many people in so many ways.

“Brian was very much a people person who was good fun to be around. He was very cheery and sociable and enjoyed going out with his friends.

“He had a great sense of humour and was very quick-witted. His colleagues have told me he was a pleasure to work with because he was so enthusiastic, dynamic and had a real zest for life.

“He will be sadly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.”

In addition to Leonard, Brian is survived by his parents and his son.

Mr Currie’s funeral takes place at 11am tomorrow in Arnot Gospel Hall, Cupar Road, Kennoway and thereafter at St Drostans Cemetery in Markinch, to which all friends and family are invited.
