TEACHERS ARE being taught how to help pupils win university places in a bid to reverse the shortage of scientists in the UK.
Scottish science teachers are gathering at St Andrews University to learn how to tutor pupils in making the best possible application to university.
The three-day conference, Teachers Together, began yesterday and involves schools, education authorities, the university and the Sutton Trust, which provides grants for young people from non-privileged backgrounds.
Participants will get up-to-date information on preparing personal statements, applying for bursaries and the application process for S5 and S6 pupils.
The conference is taking the themes of sustainability and citizenship through science.
