THE OLD ADAGE of no pain, no gain proved particularly apt for one poor soul on a fund-raising foray in Forfar yesterday.

Pierre Bernard put a brave face on it as he endured a leg and chest wax to bring in cash for the comfort fund at the town’s Lilybank resource centre.

The day centre officer at the venue for adults with learning disabilities winced as Diane McKay of Lushh, got to work on his follicles.

Despite the agony of it all, Pierre was more than happy to help out as the alternative task was unthinkable.

“It was either this or a parachute jump,” he said.

“Getting waxed seemed much easier than jumping out of a plane, as I’m terrified of heights.”

His effort was well worth it as more than £200 was pledged by supporters.

The cash will help to pay for treats such as trips for centre users and to buy any equipment they need.
