TEENAGERS WHO cannot wait to get behind the wheel are being offered the opportunity to get motoring the very minute they are legally able, with midnight lessons.
Perth firm Learner Driving Perth (LDP) came up with the unique idea and claim the lessons will represent a perfect surprise 17th birthday present for the eager driver.
Under the scheme keen learners will be picked up at 11.30pm for a range of eyesight and licence checks.
However, by the time the clock strikes midnight the teenager will be in the driver’s seat and ready for a truly unique experience.
A spokesman at LDP is sure the lessons will prove popular.
“We believe a midnight lesson will be the perfect surprise present, never to be forgotten,” he said.
The spokesman stressed that special night-time driving advice will be given prior to the lesson.
“We will collect students at 11.30pm on the night before their birthday,” he continued.
“Leading up to midnight, after licence and eyesight checks, instruction covering vehicle controls, moving off, stopping and night driving will be given.
“Thereafter the student will be able to enjoy an hour’s drive and, depending on the location, may even be able to drive home.”
The LDP lessons will be led by Alan Jamieson and Stuart Hockaday.
“We believe this is a unique service open to drivers throughout Perth and Kinross,” the spokesman added.
“It is an exciting idea that will appeal to all those 16-year-olds who cannot wait to drive.”
The ground-breaking service is due to launch within the next few days.
