continues in July

THE WETTEST June on record has flooded into July, and last night torrential downpours across Tayside and Fife led to flash floods.
Although Tayside Fire and Rescue were not needed for alarm calls, people in Newport looked on aghast as Tay Street began to look like the river.
Colin Gill captured the moment shortly before 6pm when the stretch of road between Robert Street and James Street was left submerged.
Mr Gill said, “I’ve never seen anything like it.
“In all the years I’ve lived here I don’t recall there being such a deluge of water in a short space of time.
“People in cars and vans couldn’t believe what they were seeing. It was unbelievable.”
Thankfully, the drainage system helped the waters to subside although there were still several large puddles.
Tayside and Fife, like much of the country, were plagued throughout the day with heavy showers and occasional spells of blazing sunshine.
However, the scenes like those witnessed in Newport may be repeated with Met Office forecasters predicting an unsettled weather pattern of sunshine and showers throughout much of the week.
