A MATURE student due to graduate in web design and multimedia from Abertay University put her studies to good use by helping a local children’s charity.
Yvonne Rae, a mother of four, graduated yesterday.
She spent the final months of her degree studies writing a dissertation on how children’s charity Eighteen And Under can benefit from interactive web-based tools.
The charity travels to nurseries and schools with books and games, educating children on violence and personal safety.
Yvonne hopes that using web-based technology will make these tools easier to access and bring them to a wider group of children.
Yvonne said, “I did a lot of work with Eighteen And Under a few years ago but when I saw all (their) hard work I wanted to help out.
“The charity uses a lot of games, puzzles and books in their work with children but some disabled children can’t use these as well as others.
“In my dissertation I show that a lot of these tools can be improved and can help disabled people if they are more interactive.”
Laurie Matthew, local co-ordinator for the charity, said Yvonne’s work would give their projects a welcome boost.
