GOLF FANS attending The Open at Carnoustie found themselves not only at one of the world’s premier sporting events yesterday evening put also playing bit parts in one of the country’s most listened-to radio shows.
Broadcaster Chris Evans, accompanied by his new partner, golfer Natasha Shishmanian, presented his Radio 2 drive-time show live from Angus Council’s Carnoustie Country stand at the event.
Although the volume was turned well down to avoid putting off the players who were still out on second round business on the course, the hundreds who clustered around the open-air studio were able to enjoy the experience of taking part in a live show.
His first guest as the show got under way at 5pm was former England football captain Gary Lineker, who is one of the BBC’s main commentators and interviewers at Carnoustie.
Throughout the two hours of the programme other guests, including Lee Westwood, dropped by for a chat between the music and travel bulletins.
Evans made much of the fact that while many parts of England and Wales were once again suffering the effects of heavy rain, those who had travelled to Carnoustie were basking in the sunshine and enjoying some top class entertainment both on and off the course.
