NOT ONLY were there superstars on the course, they were also in the crowds.
Radio DJ Chris Evans was spotted signing autographs on the first fairway on Saturday afternoon and former Newcastle and England striker Alan Shearer was seen watching from his hotel suite overlooking the 18th green throughout the week.
England rugby internationalist Matt Dawson attended yesterday. It was his first visit to Angus but already he was struck by its beauty, saying, “It’s a lovely part of the world.”
Dundee-born GMTV presenter Lorraine Kelly branded herself a “Tiger groupie” as she followed the world number one on his round.
She said, “It’s been great seeing all the players up really close. I’ve been a Tiger groupie. I’ve been following him around.
“It’s good having the tournament in Carnoustie. It’s just a shame there’s been bad weather. It’s great for the area.
“Everyone who is here has paid £50 to get in and that’s before you take into account the revenue for local businesses and hotels.
“It’s the first time I have been and it’s absolutely fantastic. It’s a hard course but all the professionals seem to love it.”
