Centre to witness Viking attack

A PICTISH encampment at the Pictavia Visitor Centre, Brechin, is preparing to come under attack from marauding Vikings.

Next Saturday and Sunday visitors will be invited to experience living history, cheering on the Picts when the Vikings attack.

A programme of skirmishes and weapons demonstrations is also planned.

You will be able to find out what is cooking over the open fire, watch a forge working and a falconry display.

Entry into the Brechin Castle Centre country park will include a free visit to the Pictavia Visitor Centre, Pictish face painting and art attack, Dragon’s Lair play area, miniature railway, lake and wetland area, the model farm with walks around the paddocks and through the farm steading and display of vintage farm implements.

Each day the programme will begin at 1pm and continue until after 4pm.

Pictavia is operated by Angus Council and tells the story of Scotland’s ancient Pictish tribes, a warrior people who roamed Angus nearly 2000 years ago.

These first millennium settlers in Angus left behind a mysterious legacy of carved stones, bearing their iconic images of birds, beasts, warriors and symbols, which to this day grace the landscape all around the county.

Pictavia is graded at four stars by VisitScotland and has an audio visual presentation narrated by actor Brian Cox, touch-screen interactive technology, audio information and experiences.
