Man dies trapped under lorry

A PEDESTRIAN was killed after being trapped under a lorry on the outskirts of Perth city centre yesterday afternoon.

The incident happened in Glasgow Road, near its junction with Caledonian Road, around 12.30pm. All three emergency services were called out and police cordoned off the area. The man, who has yet to be named, died at the scene.

Glasgow Road was closed from Riggs Road to Caledonian Road to allow accident investigators to examine the scene, and diversions were put in place. There were major delays on a number of surrounding roads for several hours.

A police spokesman said, “Our inquiries are at an early stage, and the name of the victim will not be released until his next-of-kin have been informed.”

Police are keen to trace anyone who may have witnessed the incident or was in the immediate area at the time. The area was busy at the time and police are confident the incident would have been witnessed.

The lorry was heading down Glasgow Road towards the city centre.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Perth police office on 01738 621141.
