Toll plaza removal may cost £2m

DISMANTLING THE Forth Road Bridge’s high-tech tolls plaza will cost around £2 million.

Forth Estuary Transport Authority have advertised for contractors to carry out work including removal of tolls equipment and other road works.

MSPs have voted in favour of scrapping tolls on the Forth and Tay bridges and it is anticipated that legalisation will be passed to lift the tolls in November.

It leaves FETA with little time to remodel the approach to the northbound carriageway of the bridge.

Last week, FETA bridgemaster Alastair Andrew talked about the need to control the flow of traffic heading towards the south side of the bridge.

Contractors are therefore being sought to introduce traffic management measures to replace the toll booths.

According to FETA’s advertisement, the estimated cost of the plaza work is £1.5 million to £2 million.
