TALENTED TWINS Mhairi and Wade Gilmour won seven gold medals between them at the 25th anniversary Scottish Wheelchair Dance Association Festival held in Glasgow recently.
The six-year-olds live in Kirkcaldy with their mother Alexis, father Peter, and sisters Ashton (3) and nine-week-old Riagan, and regularly attend the recently established Funky Fifers club.
Alexis said, “They have both always loved dancing but because of their difficulties it can be physically tiring for them. They were recently introduced to wheelchair dancing and they both really took to it.”
Encouraged by their enthusiasm Alexis tried to find a club nearby.
“There didn’t seem to be anything local but I got in contact with Walter Campbell, from Grangemouth, who is involved with the British Wheelchair Dancing Association and he very kindly offered to run a group for us which is now called the Funky Fifers.
“The group now has seven members and we are hoping to run theme nights in the future so the children can take part in different types of dancing.
“Mhairi and Wade were delighted to win seven medals at the event and both their dad and I are so proud of them.”
