TWO YOUTHS, aged 11 and 13, have been charged in relation to an incident at Camperdown Wildlife Centre in Dundee last month which resulted in animals being seriously injured.
The move was confirmed yesterday by Tayside Police and a spokeswoman added, “Inquiries remain ongoing and a report will be submitted to the relevant authority.”
Police said previously they were following a specific line of inquiry and a team of officers was established by the force two weeks ago to investigate the alleged break-in at the popular council-run centre on July 2.
The incident resulted in several animals, including a deer, otter and pig, sustaining injuries, and prompted massive outcry from the public.
Three animal lovers were so incensed they offered a reward of £3000 to anyone with information leading to a conviction.
It’s understood that the two youths are to be referred to the Children’s Reporter rather than the Procurator Fiscal in Dundee.
Legislation restricts what cases involving children under the age of 16 can be referred to the Procurator Fiscal by the police.
The Scottish Children’s Reporter Administration said yesterday it was unable to comment on individual cases.
