66 jobs to go in Dundee

DUNDEE’S beleaguered manufacturing sector was dealt another blow yesterday when it emerged all 66 jobs are to be lost at plumbing fittings company IBP Conex Ltd and transferred to Poland.

Management said yesterday that unless workers at the Alexander Street venue or their union could come up with a radical plan to save the factory then their jobs will be relocated to eastern Europe or the Far East.

Staff at the former Delta Capillary factory were told to go home yesterday afternoon after being informed of the company’s decision.

The news comes in the same week as the final 650 redundancies are made at NCR following the cash machine manufacturer’s decision to transfer the bulk of its operations to their plant in Hungary earlier this year.

US private investment firm Endless LLP assumed control of IBP in 2006 after buying a majority stake in its parent company Pearl Fittings Ltd.

IBP chairman Peter Murch said the company was set to enter into consultations with staff over the probable redundancies.
