Miraculous escape for lucky motorist

The broken telegraph pole lying alongside the car it struck.

A MOTORIST had a miraculous escape after a telegraph pole bounced off a parked Volvo and on to his Corsa yesterday.

The incident occurred on Balfield Road, Dundee shortly before 3pm.

Despite the 35-foot long timber pole hitting both cars outside the Evans Halshaw Ford garage, the passenger walked away from his dented car without so much as a scratch.

Police took the man home after he was given the all-clear by paramedics at the scene.

Both cars were badly damaged.

A Tayside Police spokesman said, “It does not appear as though any other vehicle had collided with it (the pole) and forced it over.

The incident, which left the road blocked for over two hours, resulted in an afternoon of extensive tail-backs and traffic chaos in Lochee and on Strathmore Avenue.

The police spokesman added, “The incident did have a knock-on effect with traffic in the area, but the road was cleared at around 5 pm and traffic was able to flow as normal in the surrounding area during the rush hour.”
