AN ARRAY of less than perfect pooches were put through their paces at a dog show with a difference at the weekend.
Fed up with watching high falutin hounds being pampered at Crufts, staff at a Perthshire abandoned dogs society decided to create their very own talent show—aptly titled Scrufts.
Pretention and pomposity were at the bottom of the list of desired attributes as pets of all shapes and sizes made their bid for stardom at Rollo Park in the village of Dunning.
“This show is really about fun and is very much open to all dogs,” explained a spokeswoman for Perth-shire Abandoned Dogs Society (PADS).
“The special pooches taking part were more likely to be scruffy and naughty than pure-bred and haughty.”
The day was not particularly about winners and losers—just a whole host of capering canines.
“Some of the genetic ingredients on show were vague,” the spokeswoman continued.
“There may be a touch of German shepherd here, combined with a dash of collie there.
“Look closer and you may decide that one ancestor could have been a corgi.
“There may even be a bright wee spark in the eye which would indicate a drop or two of Jack Russell.
“Whatever, it is dogs like these that usually turn out to be the brightest, most affectionate and faithful of all.
“Needless to say, pure-breeds and cross-breeds were equally welcome,” she added.
And with biscuits and a place on the PADS podium available for everything from “waggiest tale” to “dog most like owner”, there was no shortage of stars.
