PAMPERED PERTH pooches will now be able to enjoy a “wash and blow dry” with the opening of the first dogwash in Scotland yesterday.
Recently dogs have seen the likes of psychology and dieticians introduced to cope with the demands of the 21st century, and now this has been bolstered by a trip to the garage for a “dogwash.”
The idea is the brainchild of Cornwall-based THI UK Ltd, whose sales manager, Tim Robinson, told The Courier that he hopes the dogwash will capture the imagination of the Perth public.
“It is being installed at Xtreme Car Care in Dunkeld Road and is an opportunity for dog owners to have their pets washed and groomed,” he said.
He continued, “As the name suggests it is a machine that has one function only. It works in a similar way to a car jet wash, but with pressure dramatically reduced obviously.”
Mr Robinson said that the dog owners purchase tokens from the operator and can choose between five, 10 or 15 minutes, depending on the breed/ size/muckiness of the dog. The dog is placed inside a stainless steel cabinet.
“Once the dogwash is activated the user selects shampoo/conditioner and warm water by pressing a button,” he added. “The next button gives a warm water rinse. The last two buttons give a blow dry to the dog to leave a proper doggie coiffeur.
“After each dog is washed the machine automatically disinfects itself to prevent any cross contamination of fleas or bugs or the like.
“This the first dogwash to be installed in Scotland and give’s the people of Perth a rare chance to enjoy a treat for their dogs.
“We have 85 of the machines operating in the UK.
“Scotland is quite far away from Cornwall but we had an inquiry from Xtreme Car Care so we decided to install one here.
“Some dogs love it, whilst others are a bit dubious.
“But they all enjoy the blow dry at the end. It’s similar to when dogs stick their heads out of car windows—they love the feeling!”
