Scouts together again after 50 years

A GROUP of six Perth scouts who in 1957 played a role in celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Scout movement, met again this week to mark the centenary.

It was in August half a century ago that the members of the 53rd Perthshire (Perth Congregational Church) Scout Troop—Ian Connon, Alex Lamond, Donald Paton, Iain Halliday, Jim Galloway and Gilbert Price—were chosen to attend the World Scout Jamboree in Warwickshire.

The jamboree was attended by 30,000 scouts to mark the founding of the Scouts and before the Perth contingent left they had their photograph taken.

Not only was it the first time the scouts had all been together at the same time since the 50s, the photographer who captured the youthful group, Louis Flood senior, was on hand again to record the reunion.

The party, who had come from all over the country and as far afield as Canada for the reunion meal in The Bothy, Kinnoull Street, Perth, enjoyed an evening of nostalgic reminiscence.
