Resident’s anger at overflow pipe effect

The scene of the problem.

AN OVERFLOW pipe from a block of tenement flats has been gushing water on to a busy city road for almost a month, wasting water and causing problems for pedestrians.

The pipe, designed to channel away excess water, has emitted a constant flow of water, causing puddles to collect on the footpath and spill on to Victoria Road.

A concerned local, working nearby the leak, said he tried to advise Scottish Water of the situation but was told they did not have the “manpower” to deal with the problem and he should try contacting the environmental health department in Dundee.

“Thousands of gallons of water must have been lost. It stretches for 100 yards either side of the leaking pipe and has been going on for easily a month.

“At first I thought students must have lived there and gone away for the summer. But windows are open and there are signs of life inside and its still flowing water.”

“I am flabbergasted at Scottish Water’s response.”

However a Scottish Water spokesman confirmed a notice had been served on August 21 in response to the problem.

“This water is being discharged on to public land by an overflow pipe connected to a private property.

“We have served notice on the person responsible for the property to repair the problem in order to stop this excessive discharge.

“If the problem is not fixed then we can forcibly complete a repair and bill the person responsible for the property.”
