THE AWARD-WINNING Broughty Ferry restaurant The Glass Pavilion has been taken over by Fife restaurateurs and will become the sister restaurant to The Waterfront in Anstruther.
A spokesman for the new owners said they were attracted by the similarities between the waterfront locations in Broughty Ferry and Anstruther.
There will be some tweaks to the menu and the opening hours will be extended into the evenings within the next week or so, he said.
However, he added, “We plan to build on the successful formula that is already here.”
The new owners are to carry on with plans to increase the size of the kitchens and the number of covers, he said.
The striking glass-fronted building was created from a category C-listed art deco bathing shelter by former Broughty Ferry publican Ian McGrouther and opened as a cafe in 2005.
The derelict shelter had fallen prey to vandals and was earmarked for demolition to form the site of a new HQ for Broughty Ferry Scouts. But in 2001 the Scottish Executive stepped in and insisted that the building’s distinctive art deco features be saved.
“It is obviously a very impressive building in a location very similar to what we have elsewhere and we feel sure that the formula that has been successful there for four years will be just as successful here,” added the spokesman.
