FORFAR Horticultural Society has dug up a good crop of entries for its annual flower show at the town’s Reid Hall.
Doors opened yesterday afternoon following judging of the classes—which include flowers and vegetables as well as handicrafts and children’s ones—for the 108th showcase.
Society chairman Les Craib never ceases to be amazed by the growing talents of exhibitors.
He said, “The show is excellent—we are delighted with the quality and quantity of everything that is on display.
“Entries are up in most classes this year and we have a considerable amount of new exhibitors which is to be welcomed.”
Newcomer Alex Dunlop of Blairgowrie won the rose classes, making his first outing a highly successful one.
Another new face, Valerie Brymer of Brechin, won the Chairman’s Award —the Ruby and Alex Bruce Memorial salver going to an exhibit outwith the other trophy classes—for her floral art display.
Mr Craib continued, “The children’s section is always very much admired and again we have some new entrants coming in, replacing the older ones who are moving on.”
He felt exhibitors had coped well with everything this summer has thrown at them.
The show continues today from10am to 5.30 pm, with the Lord Lieutenant of Angus, Georgiana Osborne, presenting the trophies at 4pm.
