Fears for missing father-of-two

Mr Semple with Mr Buick’s parents.

A DUNDEE father-of-two who went missing on the eve of his youngest daughter’s first birthday had split from his wife just five weeks before he disappeared, it emerged yesterday.

Graeme Buick has not been seen since he vanished eight days ago, just hours after he uncharacteristically became involved in a fight at a Dundee pub.

His distraught parents Susan and Graeme Buick yesterday made an emotional public appeal for the 30-year-old to get in touch and pleaded with anyone who knows his whereabouts to contact the police.

The last sighting of Mr Buick was at the phone booths in Commercial Street in Dundee city centre, where he stopped to make two calls to family members between 10pm and 10.25pm.

Mr Buick, who lives with his parents at Ballantrae Gardens in Douglas, did not seem particularly distressed during the calls.

However, he had been injured in a fight with another man at Harlequins bar in Princes Street at around 8pm.

Fellow drinkers at the bar intervened and Mr Buick then went to his brother Andrew’s home in Kenilworth Avenue to clean up the head wound he sustained.

He phoned his father Graeme sen from his brother’s house to say he would be home in 30 minutes but then changed his mind and went back into the city centre, still wearing a bloodstained blue top.

Detectives were trying to ascertain Mr Buick’s movements last night and officers visited pubs in the city’s Seagate to see if anyone recognised him.

His mother Susan said her son’s disappearance is out of character and a mystery to the whole family.

She said he dotes on his children and it is particularly concerning he did not make contact on his daughter Romilly’s first birthday last Saturday.

He and wife Lindsay, who lives in Monifieth, also have a three-and-a-half-year-old daughter, Carmen.

Susan said, “Graeme is quite a shy lad really—very polite and very well spoken. He is a happy-go-lucky young man who adores the girls.

“Graeme wouldn’t put his dad and I, or Lindsay and the girls, through this. This is really out of character for Graeme.”

She continued, “To the people that may have seen Graeme or the people he may be staying with, we’d like them to come forward—now is the time for them to come forward.

“To Graeme we would say we love you son and just want you to come home. If you feel that you want to stay by yourself for a while please let us know that you are safe.”

Mr Buick separated from his wife five days before he disappeared.

Detective Inspector Willie Semple, said there is no evidence to suggest anything sinister happened to Mr Buick.

He said the man who fought with Mr Buick has been traced and there is nothing to suggest he was in any way involved in his disappearance.

DI Semple said that on the day he vanished, Mr Buick attended Dundee College’s Kingsway campus, where he is studying construction management.

He went to Harlequins at 3pm and spent the afternoon and early evening drinking.

DI Semple said officers are reviewing hours of CCTV footage from the city centre for clues.

He said, “We know for a fact he was in Commercial Street from 10pm to 10.25pm where he used a pay phone to speak to family members.

“After 10.25pm we just don’t know where Graeme has gone.

“We are looking for anybody that knows where Graeme is, or saw him during that evening, particularly after 10.25pm.

“I would also appeal to Graeme himself to take the opportunity to get in touch either through the police, his family or through someone else to let us know he is okay.”

Anyone who has seen Mr Buick since September 21, or has any information as to his current whereabouts, can call the police on 01382 223200.
