Skateboard idols make fans’ day

Skateboard professionals at the Factory, Dundee, yesterday are (back from left) “Horsey”, Neil Smith (aka Smithy), “Boots” and Vaughan Baker. Front—”Steak”, and Danny Brady. Right front is Cameron Carstairs of Comrie who came specially to Dundee for the Block Jam Challenge.

SKATEBOARDERS WERE given the chance to compete with their idols at the Factory Skatepark in Dundee yesterday.

The Factory was the only Scottish venue to be part of a UK tour organised by games manufacturer EA to promote its new game, Skate San Vanelona.

Professional boarder Danny Brady was on hand to perform a trick on a new skating block—a piece of apparatus on which you perform tricks—which had been donated to the Factory by EA.

The best attempts by locals to better the trick won a share of £200 worth of cash prizes and copies of the game.

In addition, one lucky over-18 Factory customer will win a trip for two to San Francisco by filming their trick and uploading it to www.skate.electronicarts. co.uk

Factory sports coach Ben Thomson said, “It’s been great, we’ve had about 50 people here and everyone’s been so excited.

“It puts the skatepark on the map as far as the pros are concerned and for the locals it’s the equivalent of having a kick-about with Thierry Henry.”
