THERE WERE smiles all around as more than 250 students graduated or received awards from Angus College yesterday.
Hundreds of friends and family watched the ceremony at Carnoustie Golf Hotel.
College chairman and Scottish Funding Council member Sandy Watson said the ceremony marked a time for students to look back and forwards— celebrating their success but also planning for the future.
And a young woman who has had to juggle the demands of single parenthood with her muscular dystrophy was given a special award at the ceremony.
Elaine Harris, a student on the HNC administration and information technology course, was given the Patrick Regan Memorial Award for Perseverance and Achievement.
The college were delighted when Elaine’s academic achievements enabled her to win a job with Angus Council. Elaine says she has gained confidence through going to college and it has been a great achievement.
Another student recognised for her special achievements was Ann Peters, a student on the HND animal care course. Ann was awarded the George Mathieson Trophy for the best land-based student at the college.
Ann was praised for her practical approach, combined with a genuine compassion for animals which she also carried through to her relationships with fellow students.
