A CAST of Scottish actors and a camera crew descended on Broughty Ferry yesterday to help elderly people get to grips with new TV technology.

Between 2008 and 2012, television services in the UK will go completely digital region by region.

In each of these regions, the old analogue television signal will be switched off.

Dundee is scheduled for switch-over sometime in 2010, and surveys show many viewers do not understand how they will be affected.

Professor Alan Newell of Dundee University’s School of Computing said, “The television industry has a great deal to learn about older people’s response to new technology if the switch over to digital television is going to be successful for older viewers.”

Any group or individual interested in hearing a talk about the digital change-over can contact Ailsa Redford of Hosies Electrical on 01382 774444.
