Quiet weekend on roads despite taxi dispute

DUNDEE TAXI Association’s secretary last night said cabbies had not taken any direct industrial action over the weekend.

The association is embroiled in a bitter dispute with the city council over various issues relating to the operation of the taxi trade in Dundee.

Around 100 drivers participated in a rolling roadblock around the city’s inner ring road 10 days ago.

It was thought the same might happen on Friday evening after the association’s chairman Graeme Stephen last week said he would not try to stop drivers if they decided to take action en masse.

However, DTA secretary Mike Mulholland last night said there had been no disruption to taxi services in the city over the weekend.

He said any further steps by the drivers would be discussed at a meeting of members at the Dee Club tomorrow.

A police spokesperson last night said they were not aware of any action taken by taxi drivers over the weekend.
