Sue Ryder Care Cup tees off
WORLD CHAMPION Scottish golfer Brian Crombie yesterday teed off the Sue Ryder Care Cup throughout Scotland.
Golfers in Fife can play a round for a chance to play on one of the world’s most prestigious courses as part of the competition.
Brian, who is triple World Open one armed golf champion said the competition would culminate in two days’ play at the Belfry as part of a grand final.
“The Belfry is the only course in the world to have hosted the Ryder Cup more than once.
“Having played on courses throughout the world, I can truly say that the Belfry will be an amazing course to play on, and this is a fantastic prize that you could win,” he said at the launch of the event at Balbirnie yesterday.
The prize includes two days’ play for the highest-scoring 18 teams, one on the Brabazon course and the other on the PGA course as well as an overnight stay and entertainment.
Helen Hamilton, area fund-raising manager for the east of Scotland at Sue Ryder Care, thanked Brian for giving up his time to support the event. She said that by taking part golfers would be supporting Sue Ryder Care’s healthcare services for people with conditions such as acquired brain injury, multiple sclerosis, Huntington’s disease, stroke and cancer.
Teams of four are being invited to play a round of 18 holes, on the course of their choice, and submit a Sue Ryder Care scorecard to the charity’s events team.
The round must be played using three-quarter handicaps and the Stableford scoring system. Handicap restrictions of 28 for men and 36 for women apply.
Play can take place any time between now and January 6 and costs a team fee of £80 to enter.
Approved handicaps, which are necessary for entrants, can be obtained through Sue Ryder Care’s online partner, the Virtual Golf Society, and more information is available on the website at www.virtualgolf society.co.uk.
Full details and terms and conditions are available on the charity’s website www.suerydercare.org.
