A CHALLENGE to Angus pupils to put their enterprise skills into action took off at Borrowfield Primary, Montrose, yesterday.

Borrowfield is participating in the £10 Tycoons Challenge to make the money grow in one month. Pupils have bought themselves badge-making equipment and, using their own designs, plan to spread the anti-bullying message.

The challenge, co-ordinated by Angus education department, encourages the development of enterprise in young people.

Ideas proposed by pupils range from using the £10 to set up a gardening business for parents, staff and friends; production and sale of Christmas crafts; setting up a Christmas card postal service at school; a bake and cakes sale and a dog walking service.

At the end of the challenge each class will return a record of their accounts and activities, pay back the £10 investment but can keep any profits. Certificates will go to participating classes and prizes will be awarded to the most profitable enterprise, the most enterprising idea and the most socially responsible enterprise.
