Trucker accused of wasting police time

A MAN appeared in court in Perth yesterday accused of wasting police time by inventing a story that men had attempted to hijack his lorry on the A90 between Dundee and Perth on Monday.

David Bebbington (44), of Blackley, Manchester, denied the charge, which states he falsely represented to police that the men had made an assault with intent to rob on the dual carriageway near the Kinfauns junction.

His trial was fixed for January 28 at the sheriff court.

The police launched an appeal for witnesses on Tuesday after a report that a lorry driver had been attacked by a pair of men in a lay-by on the road on Monday night, issuing detailed descriptions of both men and their car.
