Cemetery damage charges

EIGHT YOUTHS, some as young as 11, have been cautioned and charged by police with causing thousands of pounds worth of damage to a Dundee cemetery.

The youths, aged between 11 and 15, have been reported to the procurator fiscal.

The move comes after an estimated £30,000-worth of damage was caused to Eastern Cemetery and a number of vehicles in a nearby plant hire yard late last month.

Police had previously detained three youths, aged 12, 13 and 14, but later released them without charge pending inquiries.

It’s not known yet whether any of the youths will face court proceedings or whether some or all of them will be referred to the children’s panel.
