Taysiders take police golf laurels

TAYSIDE POLICE’S fantastic foursome were greeted by Chief Constable John Vine yesterday after victory in the Scottish Police Golfers’ Association Championships.

In securing the win, the team of constables—Jon Anton, David McGregor, Gary Simpson and Tom McLevy—became the first outfit from Tayside to win the team scratch trophy in the event’s 87-year history.

They are now determined to defend their title in 2008 when it is held over 36 holes at Murcar and Kemnay in Grampian Police force area.

Tayside Police host the event in 2010.

The event was played over the Irvine Bogside and West Kilbride courses, in September.

About 50 teams teed off in pursuit of success, including 20 players from Tayside.

Three of the winning team secured spots in the individual scratch event’s top-10 order of merit and Tayside constable Colin Brough was second in the committee competition.
