Overturned lorry sees A92 closed

THE A92 east coast road was closed for a spell yesterday afternoon when a lorry overturned on a stretch of the road known as the big tree bends just north of Inverkeilor.

The accident happened around 2.45pm when the southbound Mercedes artic lorry careered off the road and landed on its side on a grass embankment.

The lorry was fully laden, with part of its load and polystyrene packing cases spilling out over the carriageway.

The incident sparked a full turnout of emergency services.

The driver was released by paramedics and given treatment at the scene before being taken to hospital. His injuries are not believed to be serious.

He was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

Firefighters from Montrose and Arbroath cleared debris from the road and made the area safe from the risk of fire.

No other vehicle was involved and traffic diversions were set up for northbound traffic at Inverkeilor. The southbound carriageway was quickly reopened.
