Lorry driver in fatal crash named

THE 60-YEAR-OLD lorry driver who died after his Volvo articulated lorry left the A90 carriageway, near to Balnabreich in Angus, on Wednesday has been identified as James Robertson, of North Place, Mintlaw, Fetterangus, Peterhead.

Emergency services were called to the accident on the Dundee to Aberdeen road, near to the Balnabreich crossroads, at about 11.50pm and found that the lorry had mounted the grass verge and continued on down the embankment, coming to rest in a small wooded area at the side of the road.

Efforts to save the driver at the scene were in vain.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident. Police said that whilst there were no apparent suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident, inquiries were continuing and a report had been submitted to the procurator fiscal.

Grampian Police are appealing for information about a serious road crash on Thursday on the A90 Brechin to Laurencekirk stretch of the A90 near Crosspoles junction.

The collision, which occurred around 3.15pm at the junction with the B974 Marykirk to Luthermuir road, involved a heavy goods vehicle and a van.

A 23-year-old man from the Kirriemuir area was taken to Ninewells Hospital, Dundee, with a suspected head injury.
